James Michael Fleming, age 87, of Minocqua, WI died on Sunday, May 17th at his residence with his loving family by his side. Jim was born on May 20, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the son of Peter and Della (nee Prendergast) Fleming. He graduated from St. Rita High School in 1949 then attended Indiana University where he graduated in 1955. He earned his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1959. Jim married his wife Fran on June 8, 1957 and shared nearly 64 years together. He was employed as a purchasing manager for Whiting Corporation in Chicago. He proudly served in the US Army and was a member of the Madsen-Empey American Legion Post 89 and the Knights of Columbus.
Jim enjoyed camping, boating, traveling to sunny Florida, reading, walking, renovating properties and especially loved spending time with his family. Jim loved spending time in the northwoods. He spent many summers on Brandy Lake at cottages he purchased in 1966. He moved his family to Minocqua permanently in 1981. He was a man of deep faith and was an active member of St. Patrick and later Holy Family Parish.
He is survived by his wife Frances “Fran” and by his 7 children: James K. Fleming of Blue Island, IL; Jeanne (John) Wolski of Mokena, IL; Donna (Michael) Tolish of Mokena, IL; Linda (Bob Merz) Kaiser of Eagle River, WI; Laura (Daniel) Lincoln of Minocqua, WI; Michael (Carrie) Fleming of Barrington, IL and Carol (Timothy) Melms of Minocqua, WI. He was a loving grandfather to 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters Margaret Mary Fleming and Shirley (Peter) Willett and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Della.
Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, May 23rd at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, WI from 9:30 am till 12:00 noon. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 8th at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association or HYF Dr. Kate Lakeland Hospice.
