James 'Jim' Theiler, age 85, 1613 West Wind Drive, Rhinelander, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at his residence.
Jim was born January 20, 1929 in Tomahawk, the son of Frank and Jennie (Strong) Theiler. He was first married to Patricia Gallagher who preceded him in death. He later married Patti Olson on February 8, 1991 in Rhinelander. Jim received his B.A. degree in economics from UW-Madison. He was formerly employed for over 20 years with the State of Wisconsin, retiring in 1984 as supervisor of assessments. He also sold real estate for Yeschek Realty, was employed as an appraiser and assessor, and formerly served on the Lincoln County Board. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served in Korea. He enjoyed traveling to warm places, hunting grouse, Badger basketball, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Survivors include: wife, Patti Theiler, Rhinelander; children, Kevin Theiler, Wausau, Scott Theiler, Tomahawk, James (Michelle) Theiler, Wausau, Joseph (Karen) Theiler, Wausau, John Theiler, Lake Moore, Illinois, Mark (Anita Brooks) Theiler, Rhinelander, Tim (Elizabeth) Theiler, Sharon, Massachusetts, Jennifer (John) Wu, Spring Grove, Illinois, Mary (Mike) Coco, Island Lake, Illinois, Jeane (Jerry) Otterholt, Tomahawk, Anne (Dave) Falasky, Rib Mountain, Tricia Theiler, Overland Park, Kansas, Michelle (Mike) Cwiekowski, Elcisor, Minnesota, Elizabeth McKenna, California, Melissa (Blaine) Bundy, Eau Claire; sister, Mary Novak, San Antonio, Texas. Jim is further survived by 30 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and his dog and loyal companion, Gigi. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife - Pat, brother - Fran, and sisters - Columbia, Helen, and Delphine.
A Memorial Mass for Jim Theiler will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Father John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of Mass at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
A Graveside Service for Jim will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk.
