JANET JANKO
Janet Kay Janko, 70, Phillips, Town of Worcester, passed Saturday, January 10, 2015. She was born in Phillips on June 7, 1944, the daughter of Max and Christina (Gura) Schmidt. She was a 1962 graduate of the Phillips High School. She was married to Thomas Bruce Janko in Pine City, Minnesota, on December 29, 1962. In her working career she was employed as a Secretary-Bookkeeper by the Central School District of Phillips, was employed by Phillips Plastics, Marquip, Roscoes’ Country Sausage, Sears, the Bottom Dollar Store, and retired from Georgia Pacific-Lionite, and seasonally made wreaths. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Women’s Auxiliary of the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778, and served on the Town of Worcester Election Board. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, reading, collecting bells, stamps, lamps, and rolling pins, and in the early years was an active participant in the bowling and softball leagues.
She is survived by her five children, Charmaine (Dan) Ringersma, Phillips, Dana (Doug) Setterman, Park Falls, Jill (Al) Gunderson, Chicago, IL, Brian (Linda), Chicago, IL, and Mark, Phillips; by 10 grandchildren and two great grandsons; and by two brothers, Archie (Marion) Schmidt, Genesco, IL, and William Schmidt, Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bruce Janko; and by two sisters, Mary Ann Schmidt and Betty Swiderski.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon of Wednesday, January 14, at St. John Lutheran Church with Reverend Thomas Reiff officiating. The VFW Women’s Auxiliary will conduct services at the church following funeral services. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
