JANICE SHOVICK
Janice Marie Shovick, 78, Phillips, died in the Lakeside Villa Apartments in Phillips while under the care of her family and Flambeau Home Health and Hospice on Monday, November 10, 2014. She was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, on March 22, 1936, the daughter of Elmer and Margaret Wick. She was a graduate of the Washburn High School in Washburn, WI. She was married to Larry Shovick on November 20, 1954, in Washburn, Wisconsin. She owned and operated the Standard Oil Distributorship with Larry in Ashland and then Phillips. She was then employed by Phillips Plating Corp, and then for many years by Phillips Lumber and Hardware. She was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church and an active member of the Council of Catholic Women there, very active as a volunteer at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips, and in the earlier years an active member of a number of snowmobile clubs. In her free time she enjoyed the company of her family, friends, and neighbors, and reading.
She is survived by five children, Michael (Nina Egedius), Oslo, Norway, Laurie (Randy Olafson) Steiner, Park Falls, Terese (Mike) Martin, Phillips, Patty (Jim) Schroeder, Aniwa, WI, and Barb (Elliott Kibler) Shovick, Rhinelander, WI; by 13 grandchildren and one on the way; by 4 great grandchildren and one on the way; and by one brother, Donald Wick, Elkhorn, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, on May 3, 2007; by one brother, Larry Wick; by one infant sister, Jeanie; and by her special friend, John “Tom” Bachand.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 14, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips after 4:30 P.M. on Thursday, November 13, and at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. The Parish Wake Service will be held at the funeral Home at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening with Deacon James Celba officiating.
