Jerome Anthony Braeger, age 89 of Arbor Vitae, WI, died on Wednesday, November 18th at home while in the care of home hospice and his wife. Jerry was born on January 5th, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI. He is the son of Carl and Sylvaria (nee Gehl) Braeger. Jerry graduated from the Theological College in Washington D.C. with a licentiate degree in theology.
Jerry served as a priest for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for 27 years. After getting a dispensation from the priesthood, he married Eileen Gorecki, and they were married for 38 years. He serviced office equipment for eleven years, and he retired at the age of 62.
Jerry was one of those men who always had a project going. Those projects ranged from electronics to genealogy to clock repair. He created his own hi-fi player, and he had a patent pending on a car headlight alarm system. He made remote control boats for his nephews. Jerry, a man for all seasons, did plumbing and electric and carpentry work. In his final years he was working on a Christmas star containing 600 lights. Legally blind, Jerry worked on his Christmas star by feel. Of late, Jerry’s main interests have been attending Scripture class with Fr. Aaron, the Bluebird Lane book club, Advanced Catholicism book club and going on retreats to New Melleray Abbey with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen (nee Gorecki) of Arbor Vitae, WI; by his son David of West Bend, WI; his daughter Sarah Tyberg, her husband Adam Tyberg, two granddaughters, Helena and Iris, of Sherwood, OR; and Brother, Bernard Braeger of Milwaukee, WI and by Brother-in-law: Stanley (Janice) Gorecki of MI and Sisters-in-law: Lynn Gorecki of PA and Carol (Mark) Wallner of WI and by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
The Memorial Mass for Jerry will be held on Friday, December 4 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, WI. Visitation will begin at 10 AM and will be followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Secular Franciscan Compassion Fund.
