Joanne Marie Tomczak

Joanne Marie Tomczak, age 69, a resident of Mauston, WI, died at her home on May 13, 2024. Joanne was born in Wakefield, MI, and grew up in Bessemer, MI. She graduated from A.D. Johnston High in 1973. She worked as a physical therapist aide at Grandview Hospital for many years. She also was a nurse’s aide at several facilities and in the home as well as a housekeeper and seamstress.

Joanne enjoyed things such as coloring, looking at photos, she enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She liked to shop and listen to VCY Americ, K-Love, The Monkies, and Janice Joplin. She enjoyed watching Chicago P.D., NCIS, Purple Rain and many other shows.  She also attended a Janice Joplin concert in Chicago at the age of 13.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents: Sylvester and Cora Tomczak; brother: Tony Tomczak; sister: Marge Hanson. She is survived by her four children: Nellie Works of Minocqua, Sylvester Works of New Lisbon, Rose Ceno of Indiana, Joe Ceno of Mauston; grandchildren: Timothy (Joyce) M. Lotzer of Ohio, Allison (Kieran) of Portage, Riley Jacob Gregory Works, Dustin Sweeny, Sofia Sweeny, Treyton, Ezekial of Ironwood; Siblings: Kathy (Kent) Tenney, Sue Honkala; nephews: Brent Honkala, Trey Honkala; family and friends: Mary McRay, Dennis McRay, JoJo Barlett, Jenny Anderson, Carl Anderson, the Jakkola family, Cheryl Fink; and her cat: Meow-Meow.

Joanne was a Christian Woman and dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She moved to Mauston in 2018 to be closer to her son Sylvester Works. Late in life the Lord worked with her through Christians and his word to understand and accept the true Gospel and she is with him now in Heaven. Joanne will no longer have pain nor sorrow, no more guilt or shame, no more loss, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and many other health issues.  She is Free! And waiting for all of us to join her someday. God Bless her soul. 

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, please check back closer to the end of June for more information. Burial will take place at the Bessemer Cemetery after services. Cremation has taken place, as was her wish. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to PO Box 1332 Minocqua, WI 54548, to the funeral home, or on Facebook to Tom Davis.
