John Heisel

John W. Heisel, Sr., passed away Monday, November 16, 2009 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk. John was born November 21, 1940 in Iron River, Michigan, the son of Walter and Olive (Smedlund) Heisel. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Stambaugh, Michigan and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1958. John joined the U.S. Navy in 1958 and later graduated from the Navy School of Music in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the 7th Fleet Navy Band and did a tour of Japan. He later attended and graduated with honors from Michigan Tech University's Ford Forestry Center in Alberta as a Forestry Technician. He married Eva Klobucher on June 15, 1963 in Stambaugh, Michigan. John began working for Owens-Illinois/PCA Woodlands Division in 1967, and worked 32 years in various positions until taking early retirement in 1999 due to health reasons. He was a member of the Northwoods Big Band and St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. Survivors include: Wife Eva Heisel Tomahawk 3 sons John Heisel, Jr. Dan Heisel both of Tomahawk Michael (Lisa) Heisel Durham, North Carolina 1 sister June (Jim) Lund Iron River, Michigan John is further survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother - Bruce Heisel, and a sister - Christine Fossum. A Memorial Service with Veteran Tribute for John Heisel, Sr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2009 from St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. Rev. Hans Heisinger will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services at 1:00 p.m.
