John W. Kelley, age 93, of Wausau, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
John was born March 9, 1923 in Tomahawk to George and Agnes (McCarty) Kelley. He was married to Catherine L. Riedel on July 10, 1948 also in Tomahawk. Captain Kelley was a United States Marine Corp. fighter pilot, flying the gull wing Corsair during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He later served as an instructor pilot during the Korean War. John graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with an engineering degree and a Doctorate of Law. John practiced law in Wausau from 1950 until his retirement in 1990. He had a long and distinguished legal career with primary emphasis on civil litigation. John was a faithful member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Wausau.
John is survived by his 6 loving children – Colleen (George) Mills, Robert (Julie) Kelley, Peter (Yan) Kelley, Joseph Kelley, Mary (Ken) Tyler & Patrick Kelley. He is further survived by 6 grandchildren – Courtney Mills-Chiapperini, Tyler Mills, Arleen Kelley, Ryan Kelley, Daniel Tyler & Maureen Kelley. John was preceded in death by his wife Catherine and his sister Ann.
The Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors for John Kelley will take place at 11:00AM on Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. Louis Reddy Maramreddy will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:00AM until the time of Mass at 11:00AM. John will be buried next to his wife in Calvary Cemetery.
