John Perger, 99
John Perger oldest living resident in Harmony WI, passed away at his home on November 3rd, 2019, surrounded by his three daughters. He was 99.
He was born February 16th, 1920, on the family farm in Harmony to Anna and Fred Perger. John was a dairy farmer and logger who, along with his brother Rudy, was known in the community for his logging accomplishments. He also worked as a carpenter, painter, and for many years he cleared brush to maintain power lines for the Price County Electric Company.
John was an avid hunter and excellent marksman. In 2009 he received recognition as the oldest resident in Harmony for shooting a ten point buck on the first day of hunting season at the age of 89.
John was a gifted accordian player. He loved music and later in life he pursued his passion for polka dancing by becoming a member of the Happy Dancer Polka Club., along with his dancing partner Bea Schulpius.
John will be deeply missed by his loving companion of 47 years, Bernice Schulpius, his three daughters, Beverly (Jean Luc) Raufflet, Cathy (Kevin) Smith, Cheryl (Rick) Merkes, four grandchildren, Valerie (Josh), Craig (Alison), Danielle (Chris), Devin (Aaron), four great-grandchildren, Jake, Morgan, Will, Shiloh, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents, son Linden, his wife Mae, three brothers Jerry, Jimmy, and Rudy, three sisters, Toni, Annie, and Blanche.
In honor of John’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A memorial gathering to celebrate his life is being planned for family, friends, community in the early summer of 2020.
