Joseph A. Massa, age 66, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully at his home after a long battle with illness, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
Joe was born in Tomahawk on June 3, 1952 to his parents Theodore & Marian Massa. He was married to Donna Pankow on June 3, 1973. Joseph worked at Tomahawk Sand & Gravel prior to starting and operating his own business “Rock Falls Construction" with his friend Pat Neumeyer. He loved his work, but also loved snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle and socializing with many people he knew while drinking coffee in the morning at the local restaurants. He had a strong passion for local history and could tell amazing stories about the area. He also loved and faithfully listened to trading mart every morning. He cherished the time spent with family and friends.
Joe is survived by his companion of many years – Cathy Sparbel and their daughter Mariah Sparbel, both of Tomahawk; together with Donna (Pankow) Massa, Joe had 6 children – Angela (Freedom Hinson) Massa of Merrill, Stacy Smith of Tomahawk, Holly (Kendall) Gullo of Wausau, Ted (Ryan Barreau) Massa of Tomahawk, Adam (Jennifer) Massa of Tomahawk, & Samantha (Kyle) Bloch of Merrill. Joe is further survived by 11 grandchildren - Chelsey, Mackenzie, Kallie, Hunter, Savannah, Riley, Mason, Talon, Gracin, A.J. & Dawson; Cathy’s daughters – Jessica & Sarah Wendland, 3 brothers – Roger (Mary) Massa, Mike Massa & Patrick (Jill), 6 sisters – Mary (Craig) Kuntz, Janet (Monica) Massa, Judy (Shane) Potratz, Debbie (Jack) Massa, Joan (Dave) Thompson & Cindy (Dave) Skow; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, sister – Kathy Ledvina and grandson – Samuel Massa.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Joe Massa will take place at 11:00AM on Monday, July 30, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Krueger Family Funeral Home from 4:00PM until the Vigil Service at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Monday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of Mass at 11:00AM. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
