Joseph J. Swan, of Tomahawk, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 surrounded by his family five days short of his 93rd birthday.
Joe was born on October 22, 1928 in Tomahawk to John & Jennie (Schoone) Swan. He served our country during the Korean conflict with the United States Army. After returning home from the service, he married Loretta VanHarpen on August 6, 1955. Joe started working for Owens-Illinois Paper Mill in 1950. He worked for 41 years until he retired as Woodlands Supervisor in 1991. Joe enjoyed hunting, traveling, gardening and Nascar racing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was a proud Army Veteran and was so thankful to take the Honor Flight in 2015. He also attended many Army reunions over the years. Joe spent time on the road for work, and traveled for enjoyment. He had an amazing sense of direction and knew every highway and intersection in Wisconsin, the U.P. and several other states. His travels have now ended with his journey to heaven.
Joe is survived by his wife – Loretta Swan of Tomahawk; children – Gary (Carol) Swan of Tomahawk, Jim (Terry Higgins) Swan of Tomahawk, Jean (Jim) Keip-Wurster of Tomahawk, Rob (Lisa) Swan of Gleason & Stacie (Steve) Cotey of Grafton; daughter-in-law – Nancy Swan of Tomahawk; and brother - Edwin (Kathy) Swan of Waupun. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren & sisters-in-law – Estelle Renn, Ceil Roberts, Connie Gavin & Rosie Swan.
Joe is preceded in death by his son – Mike Swan, son-in-law – Garry Keip, parents, sisters – Bernadine Swan & Anna Schulz & brothers – Casey Swan & Ted Swan.
The Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors for Joseph Swan will take place at 10:00AM on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will take place at Krueger Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM. There will be a prayer service at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church from 9:00AM until the time of Mass at 10:00AM. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery after Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made in Joe’s name are appreciated to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight or St. Mary Catholic School.
