Joseph V. Gebhardt

June 4, 1941 — June 20, 2016

Joseph V. Gebhardt, of Wausau and Arbor Vitae, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the age of 75. He was born in Wausau to Robert & Evelyn (Berens) Gebhardt on June 4, 1941.

Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia A. (Bartelt). He is the proud father of Timothy (Pamela) Gebhardt, Beth (Gary) Kittel, and Amy Jo (Kent) Plowman.
He is further survived by grandsons Joseph (Jessica) Kittel, Benjamin (Nicole Harsh) Kittel, Jacob (Uriah Krueger) Gebhardt, Nathan (Melissa Wagner) Gebhardt, Austin Plowman, and Conner Plowman. Further survived by a brother, Richard (Julie) Gebhardt, two sisters, Marie (Darrell) Cater and Elaine Vilter, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His parents, and brother, Robert predeceased him in death. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Shirley (Ralph) Hintze, Betty Ramey, Sally Delgado and Lois (Jeff) Peterson.

Joe worked at Weyerhaeuser in Rothschild for 23 years. He also ran Bob's Radiator Shop in Wausau with his father. After his father passed he ran the radiator shop by himself until his retirement in 1992. When Multiple Sclerosis forced Joe into early retirement he found himself on grandpa duty. Whether it was taking little Joe to Annie’s for breakfast in the mornings, or when grandpa would call Ben while he was deployed overseas or when he sang John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt to Jacob over and over again when he was a little boy or taking Nathan to the fire station in Wausau for a visit, or teaching Austin the fine art of flirting with waitresses and talking about his love of hunting and fishing with Conner. His grandsons were his pride and joy.
Joe and Patty moved to Arbor Vitae in 2005 where they loved sitting on their deck enjoying the many deer, turkeys, bear, partridge and numerous birds that stopped by to visit. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Joe loved to hunt, fish and camp with his family. And boy was he full of stories. He enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Colorado and numerous duck hunting trips over the years to North Dakota. He enjoyed trap shooting for years at Marathon Trap & Sports Club.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 24th at 12:00 Noon at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, WI with a visitation from 10:00 AM till time of service. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Arbor Vitae, WI.
