Joy Smith

Joy B. Smith, age 84, formerly of Wausau and a long-time resident of Tomahawk, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 at Friendly Village Nursing Home in Rhinelander. Joy was born July 16, 1924 in Antigo, the daughter of Lyle and Marie (nee Blood) Woodard. Joy was a 1942 graduate of Mattoon High School and a 1943 graduate of Oshkosh Business School. She married Malcolm Blackwood on January 6, 1945; he passed away January 11, 1953. She later married Vernon Smith on April 9, 1955 in Pine City, Minnesota; he passed away August 11, 1996. Joy was formerly employed as a secretary with Four Wheel Drive in Clintonville and was formerly an office manager with Graebel Movers in Wausau. She was a very active member of United Methodist Church in Tomahawk, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She loved music, and enjoyed singing and playing the organ. Survivors include: Son Brian (Abby) Smith Hazelhurst 4 daughters VerJean Smith Wausau Kris Blackwood Centralia, Illinois Janell (James) Solinsky Phillips Sandra (Jeff) Peterson Mosinee 1 sister Patricia Weeks Appleton Joy is further survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral Services for Joy Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008 from United Methodist Church in Tomahawk. Rev. Allen Christensen will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Prairie Rapids Cemetery in the Town of Nokomis.
