JOYCE MURIEL CRESS
Joyce Muriel Cress, 95, passed away at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Muriel was born May 23, 1924 to Edna (Madson) Pierrard and Alvin Pierrard in Catawba, WI.
Muriel grew up in Catawba. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1942. November 26, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart Chester Allen Fox. They had three sons, James Allen, and Twins Daniel Norman and Donald Alvin Fox. Chester preceded her in death on July 26, 1972. Muriel married Kenneth Cress on February 16, 1974. Kenneth also preceded her in death on May 27, 2009. She was a life-long member of Saint John Lutheran Church of Phillips, was a Life Member of the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778, and a member of the Lane Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122.
Through Muriel’s working career she served as Deputy Price County Treasurer for sixteen years under Margaret Corrigan and twelve years as the Price County Treasurer until she retired in 1985. In her free time she enjoyed camping, playing cards, and travel.
Muriel is survived by one brother, Kenneth (Betty) Pierrard, Lavonia, MI; by three sons, James (Pat) Fox Pontiac, IL, Daniel (Pam) Fox, Sheboygan, WI, and Donald (Jan) Fox, Phillips. She also leaves behind two grandsons, five granddaughters’ eighteen great grandchildren, eight nephews, and seven nieces. Preceding her in death also were her parents, her brother, Dwain, and her sister, Barbara Beisner.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Saint John Lutheran Church in Phillips on Saturday, November 16, from 10 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. to celebrate Muriel’s life with Pastor Jim Folz officiating. A luncheon will follow memorial services. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips.
A memorial fund has been established in her name. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home for all their loving care and support.
