JOYCE SWAN
Alice Joyce Swan, 89, longtime Prentice and Ogema resident, died in the Aspirus Medford Hospital in Medford on Sunday, November 11, 2018. She was born in Prentice on August 18, 1929, the daughter of Elmer and Alice (Dahlin) Hallstrand. She was a 1947 graduate of the Prentice High School. She was married to Alvin Swan on August 25, 1949, in Merrill, Wisconsin. She was employed as a secretary by the Price County District Attorney, as a kindergarten school bus driver, and then in 1965 was employed by the Prentice School District as a secretary, a position that she held for many years until the time of her retirement. She also worked as a Census Taker. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Prentice, and had served as a 4H Leader for a number of years. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, cross country skiing, camping, and spending time with her family, she was a very dedicated mother.
She is survived by four children, Patricia (William ) Kemp, Vadnais Heights, MN, Beverly “Ruby” (Russell) Thomas, DeLand, FL, Janet (Arnold) Blomberg, Ogema, and Donna (Thomas) Blomberg, Iron River, WI; by 11 grandchildren, by great grandchildren; by two brothers Jack Hallstrand, Prentice, and Randy (Cheryl) Hallstrand, Ogema; by one sister Joan “Jo” Johnson, Muskego, WI; and by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Alvin, her husband of 61 years, on August 28, 2010; and is also preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Hallstrand; and by one sister, Rosie Nelson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 16, at the First Baptist Church in Prentice with Pastor Neil Schindler and Pastor Don Rhody officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Ogema. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 12:30 P.M. until the time of services.
