June K. Hetzel, age 92, 709 North Ave., Tomahawk, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk, surrounded by her loving family.
June was born June 22, 1921 in Rapid River, Michigan, the daughter of Dallas and Mildred (Mornson) Kniskern. She married the love of her life - Howard Hetzel on July 21, 1945 in Rapid River, Michigan, after waiting 3 ½ years for him to return from WWII, while she worked in an ammunition plant in Indiana. Howard took over the family plumbing business, and June kept the books for it while raising and caring for their six children. Several times, children in need were welcomed into their home for extended periods. She belonged to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout Leader. After selling the business to their sons, they enjoyed traveling and then settled in McAllen, Texas for six months each year. June was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk and had a very strong faith life. She loved singing songs of worship each Sunday morning at Mass. She was a loyal and loving person that respected everyone she came into contact with. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

June is further survived by 18 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother - Art, sister - Mildred, and grandson - Aaron J. Hetzel on December 11, 1999.
A Mass of Christian Burial for June Hetzel will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 27, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the hour of Mass at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place in the spring at Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk.
