Laurie A. Matushak, age 55 of Hazelhurst, WI, went to Heaven on November 10, 2013 at 2:07 AM at her home from a courageous battle with cancer. Her strength and determination amazed and inspired us all. Laurie was born on April 11, 1958 in Wausau, WI the daughter of Gerald and Sally (nee Frazier) Rainville. She graduated from Wausau East High School. Laurie married Jim Matushak on September 4, 1976. They raised their children; Jason and Jesse in Hazelhurst where they lived for 34 years. Laurie was always active in the community. She was an honorary Hazelhurst fire department member and always willing to lend a helping hand. Laurie was employed by the Hagge family for 33 years; where they became an important part of her life and family. For the past 20 years she loved to drive school bus for the Lakeland Bus Service. She was proud to drive school bus and loved the kids and the smile she put on their faces. She drove for many children and their children in the future. Laurie’s children and grandchildren will always have a special place in her heart. She enjoyed all the time she got to spend with them. She was the best mom and nana in the world. So much love, laughter, and memories surrounded her family and friends. She enjoyed hunting with her family; loved playing cards, snowmobiling, jeep rides and four wheeling. Her time spent up north with her husband also made fun times and friends. Her passion to garden brought life to all she touched. Laurie’s smile, humor and unique red hair will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband, Jim and 2 Sons: Jason (Abeer) and Jesse and Grandchildren: Patrick, Christian, Maura, Layla and Alex. Further survived by her Siblings: Jerry (Sandy) Rainville and Cindy (Mike) Hughes and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Sally Rainville and Sister, Carol Rainville. Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, November 16th at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, WI from 12:00 Noon to 2:30 PM. Memorial Service will follow at 2:30 PM with a reception to follow.
