Lawrence Arthur 'Louie' Morren passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Louie was born April 1, 1932 in Tomahawk, to the late George 'Pud' and Alice (Johnson) Morren. Louie was a 1950 graduate of Tomahawk High School. He joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean War as a Gunner's Mate aboard the destroyer USS Rupertus. He met Janice Myatt while both were stationed at the Naval Base in Long Beach, California. They were married on May 10, 1953. Upon his return home, Louie joined the Tomahawk Police Department as a patrolman and served the City of Tomahawk until the late 1960's, when he joined the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. He was later employed with Owens-Illinois of Tomahawk until his retirement in 1995. During this same time period he also owned a freight hauling business, an insulation business, and was employed on various construction jobs as he worked hard at providing for his family. Louie served for many years on the Tomahawk City Council and enjoyed his 'retirement job' as a groundskeeper at Inshalla Country Club. He also enjoyed deer hunting and trout fishing, playing cribbage, cheering for the Brewers and Packers, telling bad jokes, spending time with his friends at the American Legion, hosting his annual LobsterFest for family and friends, and his winter getaways to Myrtle Beach. Louie will be best remembered for his love of his family, his optimism, and his many acts of kindness on behalf of those less fortunate. Survivors include: 4 daughters Laurie (Steve) Musial Fort Collins, Colorado Marilyn 'Binky' Morren Fort Payne, Alabama Dawn (Brian) Roberts Tomahawk Anita (Gary) Jagodzinski Holmen 1 son Brian (Peggy) Morren Tomahawk 1 brother George 'Sambo' Morren Tomahawk 2 sisters Darlene ('Red') Wurl Tomahawk Dorothy (Binder) Kind Tomahawk Louie is further survived by 15 grandchildren (Breanne, Stacy, Danielle, Mike, Brett, Laura, Kalika, Brittany, Beau, Erin, Tucker, Leah, Anna, McKenna, Katie), and 5 great grandchildren (Andre, Tyson, Caleb, Cael, Quinten). He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, 1 son, Daniel 'Chopper' Morren, as well as his parents, and 1 brother, Robert. Funeral Services for Louie Morren will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home on Monday, September 13th from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and again at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services at 11:00 a.m. Burial with Military Rites will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to "The Pastor's Closet" at Grace Lutheran Church, or to the local food pantry.
