Leland John Gilson, age 82 of Minocqua, WI died on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Avanti Health and Rehabilitation Center in Minocqua, WI. Lee was born on November 4, 1930 in Green Bay, WI the son of Edward and Lorraine (nee Piton) Gilson. Throughout the years Lee worked at Larson Company in Green Bay, WI; Peterson’s Shipyard in Sturgeon Bay, WI; U.S. Plywood in Algoma, WI and Pauly Cheesein Green Bay, WI and then, purchased Gilson’s Bait & Tackle in Minocqua, WI in 1968 and retired in 1994. Lee enjoyed trapping minnows for the bait and tackle shop; enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, he even had a big Packer “G” on his garage door. Lee’s love for the Packers started when he worked for them in high school in the 1940’s under the leadership of Curly Lambeau. Lee also enjoyed Bingo, country music and loved to travel with his family to Las Vegas to take in some shows, gambling and people watching; Disney World, Grand Ole Opry, Branson and Niagara Falls are some of the locations he visited. Lee is known for his sense of humor and entertained a lot of people with his jokes and stories. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol of Minocqua, WI and Son, Randy of Minocqua, WI and Daughter, Lisa of Woodruff, WI and by his Brother, Merle (Rita) of Algoma, WI and further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Garland and his wife, Dorene and his Sister, Marie Boulanger and her husband, Lawrence. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, WI. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 27th at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, WI with a visitation from 10:00 AM till time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Friends First (Transportation for the challenged of our area) or to Lakeland Special Olympics.
