Lloyd J. Stankowski

April 1, 1942 — May 3, 2018

Lloyd Stankowski, age 76, met with the Lord in his home in Minocqua on Thursday, May 3, 2018.

He was born on April 1, 1942 in Wausau, Wisconsin to Louis and Mary (Bruski) Stankowski and was one of four children. By the age of 9, he started playing the accordion and it became his quest to entertain. He enjoyed years entertaining others from inside the family dance hall, to weddings, special gatherings, and the annual polka parties in Townsend, WI.

Lloyd graduated from Rosholt High School and began dating his high school sweetheart, Katherine (Kay) Dobbe. On June 29, 1963, Lloyd and Kay married in Rosholt, WI. They had two children, Sara (Santowski) and Joseph. Together they enjoyed time with family and friends, entertaining, gardening, yard work, dancing and traveling.

Lloyd worked as a mechanical engineer for Rockwell/Allen Bradley in Milwaukee for 37 years. Reading and learning were his passion. While working, he continued taking classes over a number of years. Lloyd also loved watching sports and his favorite was baseball, where he played competitively in college and on local teams. Not too many players got past first base! He was also a great bowler and played on many bowling leagues as well as competing in tournaments in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Aside from sports, Lloyd volunteered his time with the Lions Club in Oak Creek and Hazelhurst for 20 years. Lloyd loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Upon retirement, he bought the fishing boat he always wanted, and along with Kay, they moved to Minocqua where they could enjoy all the wonderful amenities of the Northwoods.
Lloyd was a member and usher at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Kay and two children, Sara(Santowski) and Joseph, Grandchildren Bryan and Anna Santowski, Sisters Kathleen (Dennis) Ostrowski, Mary Lou Janowitsch and brother Mike (Adele) Stankowski, as well as many caring nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by parents Louis and Mary (Bruski) Stankowski, Brother-in-Law Harry Janowitsch.
