Lonnie Dunbar Sr, 79, of Prentice, WI, passed away peacefully at home on September 1st, 2023.
Born on December 27th, 1943, in Emery, WI, Lonnie was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. After graduating from Phillips High School in the summer of 1962, Lonnie began working as a welder for Leo Heikkinen at Prentice Hydraulics. He remained a dedicated employee throughout all of the company's many changes before retiring 42 years later in 2006.
In retirement, Lonnie was able to spend more time doing all of the things he loved including woodworking, fishing, hunting, helping his friends and neighbors, and spending time with his family that he loved so dearly. He also spent much of his time caretaking dozens of lawns, sidewalks, and driveways and Prentice will now be a quieter place without Lonnie's lawnmower or snowplow puttering through town.
As a longtime member of the Lions Club and a founding member of the Bushbenders snowmobile club, Lonnie enjoyed being active in the community and helping keep Prentice beautiful.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Marge (Heath) Dunbar; his daughter, Tammie (Russ) King; his sons, Tim (Dawn) Dunbar, Lonnie Jr (Jackie) Dunbar, and Chris Dunbar; as well as his grandchildren, Kayla, Tiffany, Lily, Duncan, Libby, Finley, and Rowan. He also leaves behind his four great-grandchildren, Sully, Lincoln, Oliver, and Sparrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Bill and Violet; as well as his siblings, Linda, Bill, Gary, and Karen.
Lonnie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor from 1 - 4 p.m. on October 14, 2023, at the VFW Post 8491 at 935 Railroad Ave, Prentice, WI 54556.
