LOUIS DVORAK
Louis L. Dvorak, 88, of Phillips, WI, passed away Tuesday, January 31st , 2017.
Born June 14, 1928, in Marathon County, near Edgar, the family moved to Phillips in 1938. Louie attended Long Lake School, graduated Phillips High School in 1946, and attended Northland College in Ashland on a music scholarship. He worked 26 years at the Vincent and Vincent Ford dealership as bookkeeper and service manager except for 2 years while in the Army during the Korean War. While in the Army he earned the rank of sergeant serving with the 7th Calvary earning a Combat Infantry Badge with 4 Battle Stars. Louie married Eleanore (Polly) Hauta in Phillips on September 11, 1954. In 1977 they bought and ran the Crystal Café until 1984, then purchased a gift store in downtown Phillips “Polly’s Gift Center until 1994.
For approximately 60 years Louie played trumpet (Taps) for the VFW Post. On weekends Louie played with multiple dance bands, sang, played drums and trumpet to old-time favorites and requests.
He is survived by his wife Polly (Eleanore), sister Emilie Davis of Phillips; by four daughters, Debra (Kirk) Lewitzke, Wausau, Kim (Robert) Gabay, Phillips, Virginia (Wayne) Kundinger, Park Falls, and Joan Dvorak, Eagle River; by 9 grandchildren, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Havlovic, Nykki (Al) Williams, Alisha (Larry) Dean, SadiJo Gabay (Steve Anderson), Angela (Quentin) Morrison, Trapper Liebl, Beau, Tom, and Amanda Stahnke; and by 11 great grandchildren. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, and by one sister, Dorothy Kadlecek.
A family military memorial service will be held in the Spring at the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips.
