Louis William Adams

Louis William Adams, age 85, of Arbor Vitae, died suddenly at his home on Friday, November 15, 2019.
Lou was born April 12, 1934 in Parsons, PA to Ruth N (Walker) Adams and Louis A. Adams. He was raised along with his sister, Susan Ruth, in Havertown, PA and graduated from Haverford High School 1952.
Lou received a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1957 and a Masters Degree in Business from U of Alabama in 1967.
Lou entered the Army in 1957 as a 2ndLieutenant, He received a regular Army commission in 1958 and continued his military career for twenty-two years, retiring as Lt. Colonel in 1978.
Lou served 2 tours in Viet Nam and received the following commendations: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf, Air Medal with Oak Leaf, Army Commendation with Oak Leaf, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Campaign Medal with Stars, and the Republic of Viet Nam AF Honor Medal. Lou left on the last plane out of Saigon in April 1975, before its fall to the Viet Cong.
As a civilian, Lou put his Hazmat training to use, when he went to work for a global consulting firm, Ecology and Environment, Inc. in New York and developed a National Emergency Response Team for environmental catastrophes. He remained with E & E until his retirement to the Wisconsin Northwoods in 1995.
Lou volunteered his time and talents to Habitat for Humanity, local AARP tax preparation (19 years), and the Lakeland Senior Center Medical Program (as a driver).
Lou is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by: sister Susan (John) Breiten, niece Sarah (Andy) Crosman, nephew John D. Breiten, great nieces and nephews: Melanie and David Crosman; David, Joseph, Peter and Katie Breiten.
A celebration of Lou’s life will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minocqua, WI on Dec. 12 at 11:00 am. (family visitation will be at 10:30). Nimsgern Funeral and Cremation Services are conducting the arrangements for Lou’s cremation and internment (which will occur at a later date).
