Loxie Lee Kahn, 67, National City, California, died Tuesday, June 1st, at her home. She was born May 18, 1943 at Fort Lewis Army Base, Washington State, where her father was stationed during World War II. She is the daughter of the late Atty. John E. Smith and the late Wilma A. Smith. Loxie grew up in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. She was very athletic and loved to swim in the summer at her parent's summer cottage on Crystal Lake. She loved being a cheerleader while attending Tomahawk High School. After graduating she attended college at University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. In 1970 she boarded a train and headed west to San Diego, California to spend some time with her brother John and remained there until the day of her death. While living in San Diego she was employed for the United States Navy as a civilian employee at North Island Naval Base. She later moved to National City, California. Loxie had many hobbies which included skydiving and working with many exotic animals such as mountain lions at a private animal preserve in San Diego County. She did a lot of volunteer work at the Wild Animal Park in Escondido, California. But her true love was birds, spending countless hours working with the Bird Rescue Service of San Diego County as a volunteer where she contributed in nursing injured birds back to life. Survivors include her brothers John (Marcia) Smith, Jr., Menomonee Falls, William (Shirley) Smith, Wausau, sister Marlene (David) Washebek, Delafield, and uncle Gerald (Joan) Cook, Tomahawk, 9 nieces and nephews and 18 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John and mother, Wilma. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Saturday, June 19 with services to follow at 12:00 noon at Krueger Family Funeral Home in Tomahawk. Burial will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery.
