Lyle N. Koerner Sr., age 84, passed away on Friday September 21, 2018. Lyle was born November 13, 1933 on his family farm in Mayville Wisconsin, one of eight children born to William and Odelia Koerner.
Lyle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Military Police Officer mostly in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 89.
On September 3, 1960, Lyle Married Patricia McGuire, to this union a son Lyle Jr., and a daughter Teresa was celebrated.
Lyle worked for the Wisconsin Department of corrections for over 30 years. Lyle and Pat moved to Hazelhurst Wisconsin in 1972, where he worked at Camp McNaughton until his retirement. After retirement Lyle continued his oversight skills as a Hall Monitor for Lakeland Union High School for the next 12 years.
Lyle was a quiet man who through the years enjoyed riding Brahma Bulls, throwing horseshoes, woodworking projects, and an occasional game of bowling or cards. Lyle enjoyed his family very much and often bragged about his three Grandchildren. He had a dry wit, loved to joke, and enjoyed an occasional beer and Bloody Mary while he talked to his friends.
Lyle is survived by Patricia, his wife for 58 years; his son Lyle (Kathy); his three Grandchildren, Nicholas (Christine) Koerner, Megann (Ben) Pielhop, and Mackenzie Koerner; three Great Grandchildren Madeline, Corretta, and Brielle, and three sister-in-laws Judith McGuire, Diane (Terry) McGuire, and Edith (Herb) Koerner, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his daughter Teresa, parents William and Odelia, brothers Harold (Ruth), Vern, and William (Lucy), sisters Martha (Vern) Johnson, Gertrude (George) Fritsch, and Lorraine (Wes) Kerwin, and Brother-in-law Terry McGuire (Diane).
The family would like to gratefully thank the staff of Dr. Kates Hospice in Woodruff for their loving care and friendship over the past four months.
As per Lyle’s request, there will be a memorial gathering on Sunday, October 7th from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with a short service at 1 p.m. at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel followed by a celebration of his life at the Hazelhurst Pub until 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Northwoods Wildlife Center or to Dr. Kates Hospice.
