MARION BARBARA BARKER
Marion B. Barker, 86, Phillips, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at LakeSide Villa, ALF under the care of her family and Flambeau Home Health Care and Hospice. She was born on March 14, 1929, in Ashland, Wi., the daughter of Joseph and Ann (Cejka) Dvorak. She spent most of her life in the Ashland area. She attended and graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1947. She was married to Wilbur “Web” Barker on July 1, 1950. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1996. She was employed as a bank auditor at Union National and Northern State Bank in Ashland for over 40 years prior to her retirement.
She made her home in Phillips in April 2010 to be near her son Bruce and his family.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, was a member of the church choir, and was active in church affairs, Annually, she made a counted cross stitch framed and donated for a fund raiser of the church. She received many awards for her cross stitch works.
She and her husband picked special rocks for Lucia Holkanson to paint on, enjoyed fishing trips, collecting pine cones and acorns for craft projects, she was on a bowling league, was a great “Czech” cook, enjoyed casino time, and making string art.
She is survived by 2 sons: Lance (Patty) Barker, Wichita, Kansas, and Bruce (B.J.) Barker, Phillips, by 4 nieces, 5 nephews, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 sister Vera Schultz, Washburn, Wi., and best friend Jean Birel, Ashland..
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Wilbur “Web” by 1 infant sister, by 1 brother Joseph Dvorak, and by 2 sisters Ann Carpenter and Mildred Schjonberg. .The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of LakeSide Villa, Alf, and the Flambeau Home Health Care & Hospice for their remarkable care, and service to Marion, and support to our family
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, with Fr. Gerald Hagen officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday April 15, 2015, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service
