Mark Donald Hiller

Mark Donald Hiller, age 57 passed away on Sept. 17, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family as he returned to heaven. He was a resident of St. Germain.

Mark was born Jan. 25, 1962 in Eagle River to Don and Carol (Wolter) Hiller. He married the love of his life, Leslie Ann Rasch, June 3, 1989. For 30 years they have embraced all of life’s challenges and adventures. They raised two incredible children, Nick and Katie, who are his proudest legacy.

Mark was raised at the family resort on Little St. Germain Lake. He was a graduate of Northland Pines High School (1980) and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. After managing other lodging businesses, he returned to run the family resort after his parents retired. He expanded the business with his wife, owning Hiller’s Pine Haven Resort and Vacation Homes, Cathy’s Ice Cream Shoppe and the Red Canoe Coffee Company.

Mark was very active in the community, serving as president of the St. Germain Chamber of Commerce, helping establish the bike trail and was race director for the St. Germain Radar Run, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

Mark stayed strong in his faith as an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Eagle River.

As hard as he worked, he always found time to have fun with family and friends. Mark loved to spend time on the water either fishing or skiing. He was infallible in his search for his next fishing adventure to find that 50-inch musky or a great walleye hole.

Mark learned to waterski when he was five years old and could often be found skiing with friends. They skied as much as possible, no matter the time of year. The only month they ever missed was February!

Mark grew up hunting deer, ducks and partridge with his father. He called sitting in the woods his “therapy.” He continued his lifelong love of hunting with his many hunting friends.

Although he loved the Northwoods, he recently discovered the excitement of New York and Broadway shows after his son moved to the city. He enthusiastically shared the stories of he and his wife’s adventures to the city.

Mark is survived by his wife Leslie, son Nicholas Hiller, daughter Katrina (Eric) Rohe, parents Don and Carol Hiller, sisters Donna and Kristine Hiller as well as many uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sister-in-laws. Mark knew everyone and will be missed by his many friends. Visitation for Mark will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel.

The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the St. Germain EMTs, the Aspirus life flight team and the many doctors and nurses of Howard Young and Aspirus Wausau Hospital who took care of Mark and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Germain Bike and Hike Trail, St. Germain Fire and Rescue, or to the family to distribute to causes that were important to Mark.
