MARVIN LOUIS BURCAW
Marvin L. Burcaw, 88, Prentice, passed away at his home on Monday, March 11, 2018, while under the care of Flambeau Home Health Care and Hospice and his family. After 15 years in a wheelchair and 2 years in bed due to a spinal injection, he was more than ready.
Marvin was born on April 4, 1929, in Pennington, Wi., the son of Lorenzo and Marie (Tomasik) Burcaw. He attended grade school and the Prentice High School prior to enlisting in the Marine Corp.He served his country from 1948 to 1951. After 3 years including the Korean War and the “Frozen Chosin” Reservoir he returned to Pennington suffering from PTSD the remainder of his life. He was married to Dorothy Hoogland on June 9, 1956 in Catawba. He farmed, logged in California, worked on construction in Milwaukee, worked for the Falk Corporation then returned to Prentice to work for Prentice Hydraulics until the time of his retirement.
Marvin’s happiest hours were spent with his family and working on his 40 acres with his tractor, chainsaw, winch and wood splitter.
Marvin was a proud life member of the Southern Price County VFW Post #8491, the Spirit American Legion Post #452, the Disabled American Veterans Post #25, a former supervisor for the Town of Prentice, and Chairman and active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Prentice
Marvin and Dorothy have 5 children: Dennis, Prentice, Jeanne (Craig Zirngible) Medford, Michael (Michelle) Littleton, Colo., Louis, Green Bay, and Russell ((Shelly) Brantwood, by 6 grandchildren: Scott, Lynn (Michael Lindau) , and Steve Zirngible, Bailey, Olivia, and Mallory Burcaw, by 1 great grandson Kason Lindau, by his siblings: Faith Bushman, Hope (Roger) Severson, Carrol (Steve) Severson, Walter (Kathy) Burcaw, Gayle Burcaw and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and 4 sisters-in-law; Sylvia and Bonnie Burcaw, Lois Hoogland, and Catherine Marlenga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by 2 brothers: Eugene and Steve Burcaw and by 7brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in- law: Raymond Bushman, Jerry Hoogland, Walter (Joan) Hoogland, Matt (Tillie) Hoogland and John (Johanne) Hoogland, Anne (Al) Davis, and Martin Marlenga.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday March 24, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Prentice, with Fr. Gerald Hagen officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Southern Price County VFW Post #8491 Prentice. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the church until the time of the service
Inurnment will be in the Prentice Cemetery at a later date.
