Mary S. Jones, age 102, W5640 Cty. Rd. A, Tomahawk, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010 at Golden Living Center - Golden Age in Tomahawk. Mary was born January 26, 1907 in Tomahawk, the daughter of Adolf and Alice (Faufau) Schreiber. She married David W. Jones on July 14, 1930 in Tomahawk; he passed away October 31, 1970. Mary and David lived in Tomahawk for about 10 years before moving to Michigan. David was the assistant commander of CCC camps in Rapid River and Grayling, Michigan until he was called to duty in the U.S. Army. David served in Italy during WWII. At the end of the war, they returned to Tomahawk where Mary was employed with Nick & Sons Furniture Store. She and David also owned and operated a grocery store on North 4th St. until moving to Northlake, Illinois. Mary retired in March, 1971 from The Walter Frank Organization in Chicago, where she held the positions of director as well as corporation staff secretary. She was also the private secretary to the president of the corporation. Mary returned to Tomahawk in May, 1971 and purchased her parents' former home on Hwy. A, where she lived with her son Michael until his death in 2002. Following her son's death, her daughter Mary G. Jones moved back to Tomahawk to live with and care for her. Upon returning to Tomahawk, Mary worked for 14 years as a secretary at Tomahawk Live Trap Company. She retired again in 1989. She was also active in volunteer work. She was a member of the Red Cross Volunteers, a Charter Member and Director of the Tomahawk Area Historical Museum, Secretary of the Lincoln County Historical Society, and also volunteered at the Tomahawk Senior Center. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. Survivors include: Daughter Mary G. Jones Tomahawk 3 sons David (Jacqueline) Jones Glendale Willard (Barbara) Jones Northbrook, Illinois Richard (Carolyn) Jones Appleton Mary is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband - David, son - Michael, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary S. Jones will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at Krueger Family Funeral Home on Friday, January 22nd from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow services at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk.
