Mary Martha Lemke Utecht
Mary Martha Lemke Utecht, 60, of Phillips, Wisconsin, passed away on October 25, 2016, in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 29, from 9–11 am at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips, Wisconsin, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 A.M. with Father Gerald “Jerry” Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Private burial will follow on Sunday, October 30, at Blooming Grove Cemetery in Madison, Wisconsin.
Mary was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, to Margaret and Wilmer Lemke on October 3, 1956. She attended school in Rhinelander and later at East High School in Madison. She married Lawrence “Larry” Beck on October 9, 1976, and they had two children, Trisha and Christopher. On December 19, 1983, Mary married Donald “Don” Hansen, and they had two children, Jenna and Donald “D.J.” On July 6, 2013, Mary married Joel “Joe” Utecht. Most recently, Mary worked at Phillips Plating Corporation, surrounded by close friends who offered love and support, particularly as she battled ovarian cancer in 2015–2016. She was a devout Catholic who lived her religion and placed complete trust in God. Mary loved nature, and she fulfilled a dream by moving back up north and building a house with her beloved husband Joe.
Mary is preceded in death by her mother Margaret (1975), her father Wilmer (1976), brothers Joseph (1958), Gerald “Buck” (1962), Ralph (1975), and Carl “Butch” (1976), her sister Floy Caucutt (1976), and her first husband and close friend, Larry Beck (2001).
Mary is survived by her husband, Joe Utecht; her children Trisha Beck DeOre (James DeOre), Christopher (Lauren) Beck, Jenna (Jeremy) Duewell, and D.J. Hansen (Jaime Jorgensen); brothers Wilmer (Mary Pat), Richard (Kay), and sister Patricia Bauknecht. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Nicholas (Gollnick) and Madilyn and Jeremy “J.J.” (Duewell); Neve and James (DeOre); Christopher, Lillian, and Baby Boy (Beck); and Donald “Sylas” and Thea (Hansen), plus two dogs, Scribbles and Penny.
