Mike Hughes died Monday, July 4, 2022, of age-related causes. He was born on May 22, 1972, to Richard and Shirley Hughes.
Mike was well loved, not just by his family, but by many in Phillips, Wisconsin, who knew him through the Red Apple Center and Special Olympics. He was also well loved by many residents and staff at Marshfield Health Services, Marshfield, Wisconsin.
Mike always wore a very big smile. He enjoyed fishing, bowling with Special Olympics, country music (especially Kenny Rogers) and, of course, the Green Bay Packers. Mike formed close and lasting friendships.
Family was most important to Mike. He was the youngest of seven children. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He often spoke of “my family”. Mike traveled with his parents to the states of Minnesota, Texas, Washington, and California to visit siblings. Along the way they visited many national parks and interesting sites in the United States. A trip to Tennessee with friends also included time with a sister.
Mike is survived by his mother, Shirley Hughes; siblings, Debbie (Tom) of Pullman, WA, Linda of Portland, OR, Ron (Holly) of Fort Worth, TX, Sandy of Nashville, TN; nieces and nephews, Kimberly (Greg), Heather, James, Kate (Russell), Brandy (Tyler), Jonny, Robby and Gordon; great nieces and nephews, Addy, Gemma, Ellie, Will, Millie, and Colton.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dick Hughes; brothers, Bill and Gordie; and brothers-in-law, Bernie and Dino.
Thank you to the staffs of Rosewood Terrace, Red Apple Center, and Marshfield Health Services, and the Special Olympics volunteers who enhanced his life.
