Mindy Wolf Poisson, age 53 of Boulder Junction, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19th at her residence with her family and friends by her side after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Mindy was born on December 18th, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio to parents Christopher and Margaret Wolf. She spent her childhood in Wakarusa, Indiana and attended high school at Northwoods High School in Nappanee, Indiana. In high school, Mindy participated in cross country, basketball, softball and 4H. In 4H, Mindy always participated in as many events as she could, including cooking, sewing, showing horses, goats and cows (which was her favorite) and more. Mindy played trombone in the band and sang alto in the choir and was also involved in student council and spanish club.
After high school, Mindy attended Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana for undergrad. She graduated with a major in biology and a minor in philosophy. While at Hanover, Mindy spent a semester in England studying Shakespeare. She also studied abroad in Australia, learning about koalas. At Hanover, Mindy played field hockey on the college team, was in the biology club and was in the sorority Alpha Delta Pi where she met many lifelong friends.
Mindy then attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio for her doctorate of podiatric medicine. While in school there, she was in the sports medicine club and volunteered at free clinics. After graduating, Mindy did her residencies in Togus, Maine and Buffalo, New York (spending one year at each location).
Mindy moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin in 1999 for her first podiatry job. Within the first month of moving to Wisconsin, Mindy met the love of her life, Rob, when they were set up on a blind date at the buffet at Lake of the Torches Casino. Mindy and Robert got married on October 6th, 2001 at the Boulder Junction Community Church. Their family was later complete when they had their two beautiful daughters: Sarah and Sabrina.
Mindy had her own podiatry practice for over twenty years and enjoyed helping and working with patients in the Northwoods. Mindy ran house calls in addition to helping patients at her office. Patients could always expect to receive a birthday card from Dr. Wolf. At her office, Dr. Wolf collected used shoes for charities and was very involved in the community.
Mindy was a member of the Boulder Junction Community Church for over twenty years, a member of the chamber of commerce in Boulder Junction and Minocqua, the uniform coordinator for Lakeland Soccer (3 years), a board member of Greater Lakeland American Youth Soccer Organization (3 years), a member (total 5 years) then president of Lakeland Union High School’s music boosters (2 years), member of the American Podiatric Association (20+ years) and LUHS theater drama mama (5 years).
Mindy enjoyed going on walks with her family and their dog Ranger, picking up garbage along the side of the road, kayaking, gardening, watching Hallmark mystery movies, watching the NFL (cheering on the Packers), and attending her daughters’ various sporting and musical events. Some of Mindy’s favorite family trips include annual trips to Indiana and Ohio, their family trip to Disney World, their family trip to Arizona, Presque Isle Park and watching the LUHS band at the Rose Bowl Parade. Some of Mindy’s favorite family memories include going on walks and hikes, running / walking 5K’s as a family, getting ice cream every day in the summer at Mad Dog Jake’s or the Ice Shanty, beach days at White Sand Lake, spending Saturdays at soccer games and kayaking on Boulder Lake. Though Mindy loved the Northwoods best, she did do some traveling elsewhere as well: Mexico (Puerto Vallarta), Canada, Europe (Greece, etc.), Alaska.
Mindy considers her family, specifically her daughters, her greatest treasure and accomplishment. She was a pillar of the community, always looking to get involved at some event: whether that be by making a raffle basket, baking something, working concessions, or just attending to show support. Even in death, Mindy was taking care of others: donating her corneas so that someone else could see. Mindy was a caring, loving, God-fearing, hardworking, generous person who will be deeply missed by many.
Mindy is survived by husband Robert Poisson, daughters Sarah and Sabrina Poisson, parents Chris (Andrea) Wolf and Maggie Wolf, brother Todd (Shetal) Wolf, nieces Sophia and Ava Wolf, and many other friends and family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 25th at 1:00pm at Nimsgern Funeral Home (1025 Margaret Street, Woodruff, Wisconsin) with visitation at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oneida County Humane Society where Mindy’s family adopted their loving, wonderful dog Ranger.
