Miriam Lintereur , age 79, passed away at home on May 3, 2010 in the loving presence of her children, grandchildren and husband of 58 years, Don. Miriam Clayton was born July 1, 1930 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin to Heber and Cecilia (Kowash) Clayton. She graduated from Two Rivers High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Marshfield, Wisconsin. On April 19, 1952, Miriam married Donald Lintereur and after brief stints in Two Rivers and Madison, they settled in Tomahawk, Wisconsin in 1954. Miriam worked as a Registered Nurse for many years until health problems forced her to retire in 1980. In 1996, she was given the loving gift of a kidney by her son David, which allowed her to enjoy 14 more years of life. Miriam enjoyed swimming, golfing, reading, camping and doing crossword puzzles. She also played viola in a local string group for many years. One of her favorite pastimes was singing with her children, grandchildren and area children's groups. Her harmonies around the campfire will be greatly missed. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Owen. She is survived by her husband, Donald, her eight children; Jim (Patty) Lintereur, David (Sharon) Lintereur, Joe (Carolyn Selle) Lintereur, Michael Lintereur, Mary (John) Graettinger, Fred (Lynn) Lintereur, Anne (Michael) Merryfield, Sarah (Tom) Galloy, 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, three sisters; Jean Barta, Ethel Andrews and Doris Otis, and many nieces and nephews. Per Miriam's request, no services will be held. The family is planning a private celebration of her life this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be sent to Miriam's favorite charities; The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Doctors Without Borders, or the Tomahawk Public Library.
Miriam left this world as she lived it; with quiet dignity and grace. She well deserves the lovely accolade "tender comrade".
