Mona M Cannady

Ramona M. Cannady, age 83, of Tomahawk, passed away at Pine Crest Nursing Home on May 15, 2019 under the care of Ascension Ministry Home Hospice.

Mona was born on October 13, 1935 in Presque Isle, WI to Roy & Dorothy (Girsch) Smith. She was married to Don D. Cannady on September 3, 1955 in Wausau. Together, they had 3 children. In 1974, Don & Mona moved to Tomahawk. Mona worked as a church secretary for many years. She was a person who gave of herself to others. Mona volunteered her time with Hospice and also led a grief support group. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren deeply. Mona had a great appreciation for nature, loved growing flowers and good music.

Mona is survived by her husband – Pastor Don Cannady of Tomahawk; and children – Robert (Marian) Cannady of Littleton, CO, Lynnette (Michael) Farley of Brandon, MS & Kelly Breneman of Rhinelander. Mona is further survived by five grandchildren – Emily, Brandon, Nathan, Jesse & Ross. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Her daughter, Lynnette, says this about her mother, “She taught me so much about life and what was important.  We shared such a love for animals, flowers and butterflies, but most of all we shared a love of volunteering. She loved helping people in their time of heartache and grief through her work as a Hospice volunteer and Grief Support Facilitator and always told us what a rewarding experience it was for her. She was a loving wife, mom and grandma. Her love for her family was limitless and we will miss her terribly.”

Her daughter, Kelly, says that, “My mother was an amazing woman who will be missed dearly by so many people. I am so grateful to God that I got to spend 56 wonderful years with her creating countless memories. Some of the most precious memories I have are shopping for flowers together in the spring, having coffee and pie together every Wednesday and smiling and laughing at cute babies and animals on her laptop. She was my confidant, friend and most importantly my mother. I will miss her deeply but take comfort that these memories will get me through the difficult times. Sleep with the Angels, Mom!”

Her son, Robert, writes, “As a Ministry Hospice volunteer, she brought compassion to the dying. As a Grief Support counselor, she brought compassion to the living, helping them navigate the turbulent waters of grief. Her final gift to her family and caregivers was to show us how to die. She didn’t fight death, she embraced it with amazing grace. In her final moments with me she pointed to the angel figurine in her room, then pointed to Heaven, and smiled.”
