OIVA MAKI
Oiva Victor Maki, 93, longtime Tomahawk and Brantwood resident, currently of Phillips, died on Monday, February 19, in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born on November 10, 1924, in Brantwood, Wisconsin, the son of Matt and Amanda (Kangas) Maki. He was a 1942 graduate of the Tripoli High School. He was married to Violet Keto Wasti in Prentice on October 30, 1976. He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad as a Section Hand until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Retired Railway Workers Association, and of the Finnish American Society. In his free time he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, travel, dancing, and was an avid follower of local and state sports teams.
He is survived by his wife, Violet; by two step-daughters, Shirley (Randy) Hueckman, Prentice, and Kim (Mark) Heikkinen, Las Vegas, NV; by three grandsons, Scott, Brett, and Seth Hueckman, 14 great great grandchildren; by one niece, Linda Paul; and by one nephew, William Komula. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Reino, Walter, and Wilho Maki; by three sisters, Mae Podgorny, Mary Komula, and Elvi Hopkins; and by one niece, Susan Hopkins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 25, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice with Pastor Rodney Price officiating. Interment will be in the Prentice Cemetery in Prentice. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services.
