Paul Jean Pierre Lehmkuhl, age 90, died on Monday, August 28th at Tomahawk Health Services in Tomahawk, WI. Paul was born May 13, 1933, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Harry and Marcella (Felsecker)Lehmkuhl. He attended Marquette High School, where he was active in track and field. He served in Austria in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer from 1952-1955. After returning from Europe a blind date with Barbara in 1955 led to their marriage in 1957. Together they had 5 children.
In 1979 their dream of living in a home on a lake became a reality when Paul and the kids built log home on Island Lake in Manitowish Waters, WI. After a short stint working at Simpson Electronics Paul became a rural route carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Minocqua where he retired in 1995. Paul’s love of track and field born in high school became a lifelong passion as he competed on a national level in Masters Track and Field into his 80’s. He and Barb loved traveling to see grandchildren, and other family. Paul was a volunteer at the Manitowish Waters Library as well as a volunteer with the Thunderbird Track Club among other volunteer opportunities.
Paul is survived by 3 of his loving children; David (Cheryl), Paula and Stephen (Susan) and by 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 2 siblings Richard, and Barbara (Luke), many nieces and nephews and longtime friends Ursula and Joe McCarthy. Paul was preceded in death by Barbara the love of his life for 63 years, his parents, 2 sons Christopher and R. Scott and also brothers Harry (Alice) Tom (Sandra) and sister Mary. A small Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
