Peter John Lasier

September 6, 1958 — December 7, 2022

Peter John Lasier, 64, passed away in his home Wednesday morning December 7th, 2022. He was born in Princeton, IL to the parents of David W. Lasier and Grace D. Lasier.

He was raised with his siblings Dave, Kathy, and Michael in Princeton, IL where they enjoyed a great childhood playing with cousins and neighbor kids. His family would vacation to Minocqua, Wisconsin every summer, and he fell in love with the lifestyle of Northern Wisconsin.

After high school Pete attended and graduated from the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. It was during that time he met the love of his life and future wife of 42 years, Jane Staffon, through mutual friends. They later married in her hometown of Janesville, WI at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

In 1982, Pete was accepted into a graduate program at the University of Georgia. Jane and Pete then moved to Athens, GA where he completed his masters and doctorate degrees from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. Upon graduating, he began working with the U.S. Geological Survey focusing on water and soil contamination research in the southeast. During his 30 year career, he authored 26 publications and participated in the research of many more.

Pete and Jane raised three children in Athens, and he took an active role in being a father. Pete coached several basketball teams and attended all of his children’s sporting events. He also taught them to play golf at a young age in addition to many life skills. He would take his family to vacation in Minocqua, WI where they would fish, boat, and golf as a family just as his parents did with him and his siblings.

He enjoyed retirement in the northwoods where he lived on Big Arbor Vitae Lake. Golfing, carpentry, fishing, and spending time with his friends from St. Germain Golf Course were some of his favorite pastimes. He also relished the time he had with his granddaughter, Stella.

Peter is survived by his wife Jane, his children: Sarah Jane Bradley (Matthew), Corbin Lasier, Nick Lasier (Sara Morgan), granddaughter Stella, sister Kathy Halverstadt (Doug), brother Dave Lasier (Pam), brother-in-law Jeff Staffon (Pat), stepmother Clara Lasier, stepsister Karen Head (Bill), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents David W. and Grace D. Lasier, as well as his brother Michael Lasier, and his in-laws Jim & Elinore Staffon.
