Ramona "Mona" Schloskey, 93, of Phillips, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023.
She and her husband, Lyle (Bud), owned and operated Schloskey's Machinery Hill for 35 years. She was the bookkeeper, secretary, treasurer, patience keeper, and problem-solver as needed including helping to get a tractor started the bitter-cold December day their youngest child was born.
Mona was the navigator as she and Bud RV traveled the U.S., Canada, and Mexico for many years. Her memories of each place were as vivid as if she visited them last week. She treasured her grandchildren and great-grands, and lovingly taught them to be gracious losers at Cribbage, Rummikub, Wahhoo, Pegs and Jokers, Garbage, and various other card games. She loved a competitive game and introduced the ladies at Duroy to Uno. Living at Duroy Terrace for most of the last 3 years was a blessing to her, with new friends, good food, activities, and a wonderful staff.
Mona appreciated the simple things in life. During the past few years, she discovered the joy of drives in the country in her daughter's convertible or sitting side-by-side with Bud in a UTV. Country roads held a very special appeal. This past autumn on a beautiful, sunny day, (just after getting her hair done), she got in without hesitation and let the wind mess her hair while taking in the amazing colors and enjoying time with her family.
Mona is survived by her children, Susan (Ray) Sims, Valerie (Robert) Vogt, Joseph (Maureen) Schloskey, and Jane (Tony) Smugala; grandchildren, Steven (Sarah), Samantha, Adam (Leticia), Eric (Anna), and Tina (Sam); and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, and her sisters, Ruby, Tud, Syd, and Jean.
A private celebration of life is being planned for a later date. Heindl-Nimsgern Funeral Home is assisting the family.
