Ray Mesecher

June 7, 1925 — February 6, 2021

Ray Mesecher, age 95 was born in Webster City, Iowa to parents Ernie and Olive Mesecher. He had 3 sisters and a brother. Two sisters preceded him in death.
At age 16 Ray told his dad Uncle Sam needed him, so he joined the Navy where he served 4 years in the South Pacific. He studied radar then immediately volunteered for active duty in the South Pacific.
He piloted landing crafts taking soldiers and Marines into invasion beaches then transported them to his ship the USS Highlands anchored nearby.
During his duty he witnesses raising of the flag on Mt. Suribachi and also the Japanese Surrender at the war’s ending. He served on Saipan, Iwo Jima and the Phillipines.
After the war he was honorably discharged. He farmed for 2 years before the GI Bill then he worked in the harvest fields where he met the farmers daughter, Myrna. He married her and took her to college with him. He graduated in 1955 with a degree in Elementary Administration. Later graduated with a Master’s Degree in Administration and a doctorate minus the thesis from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
In his working years Ray honorably served as Elementary principal in Anderson, IN and Wheaton, IL retiring in 1984 to his summer home on the shores of South Blue Lake.
The Mesechers had two adopted children Mark & Janay, who preceded him in death. The Mesechers celebrated their 70th anniversary recently.
Ray loved his Lord, his precious wife, his country, many friends and family. His positive thinking, his booming voice, always up-beat and positive personality will be missed.
Gifts may be given to Faith Free Church if desired.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
