Red Wurl

Wallace “Red” Wurl, 90, of 126 Pleasant Street, Tomahawk, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Country Terrace Assisted Living under the care of Ministry Hospice. Red was born on January 28, 1926 in Tomahawk to Chet and Arlie (Bell) Wurl. Following graduation from Tomahawk High School, Red joined the United States Navy. He served for 2 years aboard the ARD26 in the South Pacific. Red was married to Darlene Morren on November 27, 1948 in Tomahawk. He was employed for 40 years at Owens-Illinois Tomahawk Mill retiring in 1986 as the Maintenance & Construction Superintendent. Red was a friend of AA, and of Bill W., for over 40 years. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, hunting and golfing. Red formerly served on the Lincoln County Board, the City of Tomahawk Zoning Board of Appeals and the Tomahawk Fire and Police Commission. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had served on the Church Council. Red enjoyed a trip to Washington DC on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. Red enjoyed helping people, loved being around friends and was a master storyteller. His joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. Red is survived by his wife, Darlene; and his children- Suze (Ed Fenske) Wurl, of Wausau, Jon Wurl, of Mariposa, CA, Julie Wurl-Koth, of Tomahawk, Mark (Julie Thies) Wurl, of Homewood, IL & Pete (Lynn) Wurl, of Tomahawk. Red is further survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jack, and a grandson, Jerome J. Karl. A Funeral Service with Military rites will be at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Ziemer will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 4:00PM until 7:00PM. and again at the church Thursday morning from 10:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM.
