RICHARD OLIPHANT
Richard Alex Oliphant, 73, Phillips, Town of Worcester, died in the Wausau Aspirus Hospital in Wausau on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. He was born in Queens, New York, on January 29, 1944, the son of John and Margaret Oliphant. His father died when he was six weeks old and following his father’s death, Rick, his mother, and two brothers moved back to Milwaukee to be close with family. He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and then attended and graduated from Thomas Moore High School in Milwaukee. He served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. Following his military service he was employed the United States Postal Service for 33 years, and served as Union Stewart. He was married to Kay Fitzgerald in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 15, 1987. Following their move to Phillips he worked at Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips. He was a member and President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Saint Therese of Lisieux Conference, and was a member of Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church of Phillips. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, cooking, reading, politics, and the Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by Kay, his wife of 30 years; by two daughters, Carrie Krischke, Byron, Il, Maggie (William) Chernick, Byron, IL; by one son, Paul Oliphant, Byron, IL; by 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild; by two brothers, John (Anne) Oliphant, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, and Robert (Cathy) Oliphant, South Milwaukee, WI; and by many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 2, at Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Military honors will be conducted by the Lane Kreiling American Legion Post No. 122 and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post No. 5778. Inurnment will be in the Saint Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
