Richard Lewis Hewitt

Richard Lewis Hewitt, the son of Crystal and Marvin Hewitt passed away at age 86 on October 2, 2016, in Minocqua, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Hewitt. He was the beloved husband to Betty for over 61 years, cherished father to Susan Olson (Eden Prairie, MN) and Jane Niemeyer (Milton, GA), father-in-law to Jeff Olson and Dirk Niemeyer, grandfather to Sophia and Anna Niemeyer and friend to many. Born in Flint Michigan in 1929, Richard was a graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. Richard attended the Business Institute in Milwaukee. He was a Sergeant at Randolph Air Force Base in in San Antonio, TX. He met the love of his life, Betty Stengl, while they worked in the office of Roddis Company in Marshfield. They lived in Atlanta, Georgia for two years, continuing their work at Roddis Co. Richard joined Figi’s Incorporated in 1964 in the advertising and marketing department; became the president of Figi’s in 1982. He was recognized as an innovative leader of marketing and sales with over 30 million holiday catalogues mailed a year and starting the ground breaking international cheese club, “Adventures in Cheese”. Richard served on several local and national boards. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marshfield and served on the session of the church. He retired in 1989, spent winters in Florida and moved permanently to the lake home in Minocqua, Wisconsin. Richard was an avid golfer, tennis player, angler, gourmand, sailor, hiker, reader, and traveler. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his brilliant wit and contagious smile. The family is very appreciative of the caring staff at Milestone Senior Living, Ministry Home Health and Howard Young Medical Center. A Memorial Service celebrating Richard’s life will be on Saturday, October 29 at The United Methodist Church of the Pines, 415 Chippewa St. Minocqua, WI 54548: 10:00 AM visitation, 11:00 AM service followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard Hewitt’s name preferred to Endowment Fund of The Church of the Pines, Minocqua, WI, or the American Stroke Association (http://www.strokeassociation.org/STROKEORG/).
