June 20, 1955 — January 3, 2025

Phillips

Ron Johnson, age 69 of Phillips, Wi passed away peacefully at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, Wi on January 3rd surrounded by his family. Ron was born to Harold Sr. and Ellyn (Cervenka) Johnson on June 20th, 1955, in Phillips, Wi. He grew up in Prentice, Wi and spent a lot of time at Johnsons Center store until the family sold the property. He grew up in the township of Hackett at the family farm that he would later live at until he married Barbara Harmon on June 17, 2000, and moved to the Midway tavern to help Barb run the bar.

Ron enjoyed the outdoors from hunting to fishing or even playing on the local softball league and bowling league at the Prentice bowling alley. Later in life Ron spent time shooting pool, darts and trap for the Midway teams but loved shooting pool during the outdoor pool tournament. After graduating from Prentice High School, Ron worked as a welder fabricator for Omark which later became Blount where he was a lead and worked on one of the 1st loaders that they sold, until his accident left him disabled to work on concrete. Ron enjoyed hunting, from deer to bear and the occasional raccoons. You would often find him checking his trail cameras, and helping his son and grandchildren find the perfect spot to hunt or taking a ride around the loop to inspect the deer herd and check on Cranberry Lake. In the summertime Ron enjoyed fishing making multiple trips to Canada, and local lakes and spending time in Hayward at a family friends cabin or catching one of Chayson’s games. He loved being outside from sitting by the fire, or taking a ride to inspect Hjalmer’s field work, even spending time in the woods making firewood. Ron spent countless hours helping Barb at the Midway where you could see his passion for the Packers and Brewers, there was always a game on. Ron would always be up to the task of telling a good hunting or fishing story to those that came in but loved when P-man got his buck from papa’s tower. Ron would never pass up and opportunity to poke fun at his nieces and nephews and the grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife Barb, his children, Hjalmer (Katelynn) Johnson of Medford, Wi, Michelle (Jeff Hruby) Drobnik, of Kennan, Wi, and Otto (Abecca) of Marengo, Il. His grandchildren Chayson and Payson Hruby, Summer, Roland and Corbyn Drobnik and future granddaughter Johnson. His siblings Karen (Gale) Edinger, of Ogema, Wi, Harold (Butch) Jr (Helen) Johnson, of Prentice, Wi, and Randy (Sally Anderson) Johnson, of Superior Wi. Ron had 7 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
