Ross Hoover, age 76,W5769 Daoust Rd., Tomahawk, passed away June 10, 2009 at Golden Living Center - Riverview in Tomahawk.
Ross was born March 1, 1933 in Twelve Mile, Indiana, the son of "budding" farmer Orval and Alma (Snell) Hoover. He pursued his boyhood dream of playing baseball, and pitched for the Chicago White Sox. He later coached for many years for the Heafford Junction Pony League. Ross briefly attended college in Indianapolis, and then moved on to serve 4 years in the U.S. Navy, traveling extensively around the world. He married Barbara Henry on July 26, 1953 in Logansport, Indiana. For 39 years, Ross worked for GTE (General Telephone) in Valparaiso, Indiana and eventually in Tomahawk, where he worked until his retirement. Ross was an avid hunter and fisherman, catching numerous trophies which include a state record Northern caught on 8# test line in 1978 (46", 24 lbs.) while fishing in Northern Wisconsin. He especially loved fishing for Muskies with his family and friends. Ross continued his life-long passion for fishing and began a reel repair business where he cleaned and serviced all types of reels for 19 years, providing service to a number of the local sport shops and also some as far away as California.

A Celebration of Ross's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from Krueger & Sons Funeral Home. Pastor Charles Scheele will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of services at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Fund will be established in Ross's name for various organizations (Diabetes and Youth Athletics).
The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Living Center - Riverview for their care, patience, and thoughtfulness throughout Ross's stay.
Ross will forever be remembered in our hearts whether it be on the water, on the baseball field, or at home watching the Packers with his family. In God We Trust.
