Russell D. Brownell, 86, of Squaw Lake Road, Rhinelander, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston surrounded by his family.
Russ was born on October 5, 1932 in Nimrod, Minnesota to Lyle and Gladys (Andrus) Brownell. He was married to Delores M. Krause on April 23, 1955 in Antigo. Russ served his country for over 40 years, 10 years of active duty Air Force and for 30 years he served in the Army Reserves as a foreman and mechanic. Russ and Delores had lived in the Harrison area since in 1988 and were members of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fixing things, and playing canasta.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; a daughter, Susan (James) Gauthier of Grafton; a son, Steven (Caryn) Brownell of Oconomowoc; a brother, Neil (Karen) Brownell of Minnesota; son-in-law, Mark Straube; and a sister, Barbara (Bruce) Simmonds, of Minnesota. Russ is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Russ is preceded in death by his daughter – Charlette Ann Straube, his parents and siblings – Shirley, Leona, Loren “Stub” and Gerald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Harrison. Fr. Louis Reddy Maram Reddy will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted in the church just prior to Mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 11:00.
