Russell G. Whittenberger, of W5895 Muskellunge Lake Road, Tomahawk, passed away on his 80th birthday, Friday, March 4, 2011 at Ministry Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. Russ was born on March 4, 1931 in a log cabin on the banks of the Thornapple River near Ladysmith, Wisconsin. He married Verdella A. Kleckner on May 3, 1952 in Ingram, Wisconsin. He served 8 years in the National Guard. Russ formerly worked at the Peavey Paper Mill in the Ladysmith area. He moved to Tomahawk in 1963 where he was employed at the Georgia Pacific Mill for 43 years. Following his retirement he enjoyed working at the green boxes for the town of Bradley. Russ enjoyed hunting, fishing, making firewood, berry picking, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include: Wife, Verdella 2 Sons, LeRoy Whittenberger Marion, WI Fred (Barbara) Whittenberger Oregon, WI 3 Brothers, Charles Whittenberger Ladysmith George (Cheryl) Whittenberger Minnesota Donald Whittenberger Killeen, TX 3 Sisters, Mary (Harold) Jennejohn Lublin, WI Charlotte Gorsengner Coon Rapids, MN Beulah Handt Coon Rapids, MN Russ is further survived by 4 Grandchildren (Amber, Erica, Joseph, and Jeremy). Funeral Services for Russ Whittenberger will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the Krueger Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in the spring. The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00. Memorials are appreciated to Ministry Hospice or the Children's Library.
