Ruth E. Mayes, age 80, long time town of Little Rice resident, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born on December 16, 1930 in Massbach, Illinois to Raymond and Anna (Mueller) Haas. She was first married to Albert Meixner. She later married Joseph Mayes on July 1, 1988 in Edgerton, Wisconsin. Ruth and Joe moved to the town of Little Rice in 1988. Joe passed away in 1999 and Ruth began sharing time between Green Bay, WI and Goose Creek, S.C. in 2005. Ruth always had a job throughout her life. Locally she was employed at Beachwood Resort and had worked on the Wilderness Cruise on the Willow. She was a loving, caring mother whose children always came first. Ruth was to the end vibrant and young at heart. She made new friends of strangers everywhere she went. She loved nature and especially enjoyed feeding and watching her birds and deer. Another of her favorite pastimes was playing slot machines and scratch-offs, often winning. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her, especially her 3 daughters: Sharon Jahnke Green Bay Victoria (Dennis) Holmes Madison Jo Ann (Alan) Goose Creek
She is further survived by 7 grandchildren: Jason, Leanna, Tanya, Josh, Brandon, Gary, Corey and 5 great grandchildren: Sandra, Kaitlyn, Konner, Noah and Christian whom she guided into this world on the day she left for a better place.
Funeral services for Ruth Mayes will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 2:00 at the Krueger Family Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Gary Uttech will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Rapids Cemetery in the town of Nokomis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at 2.
