Sarah Lenhart McKeon, 60, passed away peacefully with her husband, children and siblings by her side after a hard fought battle with cancer on March 10th, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Lindsay and Suzanne Lenhart of Northfield, Illinois. She was the loving wife of Michael McKeon and the loving mother of Kaitlin Grossi (Robbie), Ryan McKeon (Jasmine Basile) and Shannon McKeon. She was the oldest sister to Scott Lenhart (Liz) and Ann Seifert (the late Bruce). Sarah was blessed with many inlaws from Mike’s side of the family: mother and father in laws Pat and Patricia McKeon; sister inlaws Kathleen Harrigan (the late Richard Underriner; Pat Harrigan), Maureen Asquini, Julie Vazquez (Norberto, ‘Tito’). Sarah was a doting aunt to many nieces and nephews: Danielle Asquini, Nicholas Asquini, Jake Asquini, Blake Seifert, Emily Seifert, Carlos Vazquez, Tomas Vazquez, and Colleen Underriner. She was also a loving step-aunt to Nichole Adams, Heather White, Jenny Barry, and Lauren Kusy.
Born on April 13th, 1962, and raised in the suburb of Northfield, Illinois, she graduated from New Trier West High School. Sarah attended the University of Iowa and maintained her Hawkeye fandom for her entire life. Sarah met Mike at the University of Iowa, where they realized their hometowns were 5 minutes apart. It was in Iowa City where Sarah and Mike fell in love and it was there where the beginning of a 40+ year relationship was solidified through hard work and commitment to each other.
Sarah and Mike raised three beautiful children in the northern Illinois suburb of Gurnee. Sarah was a loving mother, wife, and homemaker. They raised their children to be happy, always encouraging their academic and athletic abilities, as well as outside interests, as best they could. Sarah’s happy place was on the baseball/softball sidelines, watching her kids compete and have fun, always bringing along her giant bag of Twizlers, Dill Pickle Sunflower Seeds, Hot Tamales, Goetze’s Caramel Candies, and a radio to listen to the Chicago Cubs.
Sarah, Mike and the kids spent countless days at their cabin in northern Wisconsin, inviting friends and family to partake in their favorite Wisconsin-style activities. After their kids went to college 7 years ago, Sarah and Mike decided to make the permanent move to Manitowish Waters, WI, where they found their dream home on Island Lake. Sarah lived for sunny days spent on the pontoon boat with her family, friends and best canine pal, Jack. Sarah’s friends she made in Manitowish Waters are forever.
Sarah - wife, mother, friend, family. You will live in our hearts forever.
