Shirley R. Bergman

Shirley R. Bergman, 80, Phillips, died on Friday, September 11, 2015, at the Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.

She was born on May 21, 1935, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, the daughter of George Herbert Walter and Virginia Somerville (Horton) Richardson. She spent her early life in New Jersey before making her home in Illinois and Colorado.

She was married to Gerald K. Bergman on Nov. 24, 1956, in Chicago.

She is survived by two sons: Kurt (Holly) Bergman, Arvada, Colo., and Ken (Mary) Bergman, Palisade, Colo., by 1 daughter Virginia “Ginny” (Mike) Palmer, Phillips, and by two grandsons: Jensen and Cole Bergman, and many other family and friends.

Shirley was passionate about her children and grandchildren, loved the outdoors, and spent many years exploring Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park, Colorado. She especially loved her cats- too many of them to count. “Mom B” will be remembered by all those she touched. Shirley truly appreciated the simple things life had to offer.

Shirley soared in gliders, rode through Colorado on the back of a motorcyle, and drove her VW bug “Sophie” to visit her children whenever she could. A collector of Indian fetishes, Shirley felt a connection to Native Americans and their spirituality. Everyone was a dear heart to Shirley. We will miss Shirley’s dear heart, her laughs, her cooking, creativity, and unabashed point of view of the world around us.

Shirley’s surviving family is especially grateful for the support and care she received from the staff at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls, Flambeau Home Health Care and Hospice, and Duroy Terrace in Phillips.

Condolences may be sent to Virginia (Ginny) Palmer, N10022 E. Solberg Lake Road, Phillips, WI 54555
