Shirley White

Shirley May White (nee Nyberg), age 83 of Lansing, IL, formerly of Tomahawk, WI, died peacefully at home on Friday, June 05, 2009. She was born on February 16, 1926, daughter of Bert and Ethel Nyberg. During WWII Shirley was employed at the Kipp Company of Madison. She married Wilbur S. White while he was on leave from the U.S. Army. They raised three children together. Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansing, Illinois where she was a devoted member of the Bible Study. Shirley was a painter and shared her talent in the 1960's and 70's, by teaching art at Trinity Lutheran School. She also founded Penny Power. Shirley will be remembered as a caretaker of all of God's creatures who had an extraordinary gift for giving. She was an eternal optimist always happy, always looking for the best in a situation, and always seeing the good in other people. She was an expert conversationalist who was always ready for a "heart to heart" or a subtle debate. Shirley never outgrew being young and she had a profound ability to appreciate the simple things in life such as holding your hand, taking a walk in the woods, or talking with a friend. Her trademark "goofy" laugh also made you laugh. Shirley is survived by her sons: Dan White and Scott (Cindy) White; grandchildren: Jessica (Erick) Kooi, Alyssa (Chad) White, Justin, Christian, and Linnea White; great grandchildren: Amanda, Andrew, and Austin Kooi, and Liam White. She is also survived by her brothers Edwin (Sally) and Bill (Connie) Nyberg. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur S. White, her daughter Nancy L. Smith-Boone, her parents Bert and Ethel Nyberg, and her brother Kenneth Nyberg. Visitation will be held at the Krueger & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, June 15 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be on Tuesday, June 16th at 10:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Lutheran Church or School, or the Humane Society would be appreciated.
